Sabin Magnet School, Spanish Language & Dual Immersion Programs

Located in Wicker Park, Sabin (K – 8) offers full-day Kindergarten, Spanish language instruction at all grade levels and algebra for all eighth grade students. The school has been recognized for its outstanding performance and encourages student leadership and action in the community and the world. 

Sabin is one of only two CPS schools which offer dual immersion (Spanish/English) classrooms and high school credit for Spanish. Sabin’s programs aim to foster an understanding of the cultures of the peoples of the Americas and prepare students to communicate successfully with people from throughout the hemisphere. Students graduate from Sabin speaking, reading, and writing both languages fluently. 

The school’s mission is to instill in students a lifelong passion for learning, a compassion for others, and the ability to translate academic study and personal concern into effective leadership and action in their communities and the world. 

Sabin offers:

  • Full-day kindergarten
  • Average class size of 23 students
  • Spanish language at all grade levels
  • In-school arts integration program
  • Free bus transportation for all students residing between 1 ½ and 6 miles from the school

In addition, the school provides a wide array of free after-school programs (until 5:30 p.m.), including theater, dance, performance poetry, fine arts, homework assistance, graphic design, gardening, flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and cheerleading. Both in-school and out-of-school activities benefit from partnerships with Columbia College, DePaul University and the Chicago Community School Initiative, ASPIRA, Luna Negra Dance Theater, the Old Town School of Folk Music.
